Forever Young

PhotobucketIt’s Day 4 of Mama M’s Valentine’s Day Extravaganza!
Today is all about the favorite memory from your wedding, and since I loved my wedding day, I figured I should participate again!
There is no way I can pick just one memory from that day, so I think I’ll try to keep it to the top five (in order of their occurrence that day).

1) The first moment we saw each other at the wedding site!
I originally didn’t want to see C before the wedding, but it also drives me nuts at weddings when there is a huge break between the ceremony & reception because of pictures. We ended up deciding to do the photos earlier in the day before the ceremony, and that obviously necessitated us seeing each other. Our wedding site was about five miles outside of town on a friend’s ranch, and when we drove up I was supposed to wait for my photographer to jump out of her vehicle to snap a picture of the first moment together.

Well, I was so excited that I completely forgot about my demand for a picture of that moment, and the second my sister came around the car to open the door, I jumped right out and ran into C’s arms! Luckily my Personal Attendant was there to snap a couple of pictures of that amazing moment. We were both so excited and nervous that we were shaking while we hugged – it was awesome!
2) My Dad walking me down the “aisle.”
Okay, I am a Daddy’s girl, through & through. I talk to my Mom all of the time and we are really close, but my Dad and I got to be really close when we worked together in the summers, and I am his firstborn and was the first to get married. This was a huge day for both of us! This picture makes me smile every time I look at it – I had just leaned over to him and whispered “Daddy, I’m getting married today!
3) Walking back down the aisle with my HUSBAND!
That clichéd “just married” moment when you look out at all of your family and friends and realize you life has just changed because that’s your husband squeezing your hand while you walk out to that recessional music… yep… that’s #3 on my list!

Maybe because we were both pretty anti-commitment when we first met and marriage was so far from our minds, it was a pretty wonderful feeling just 3 1/2 years later to be walking down the aisle with the man I loved more than anything.

4) Singing the Norwegian Table Prayer before eating.
When we first decided to get married in Colorado instead of Minnesota, my biggest fear was not getting to have all of the Lutheran Traditions that I grew up with be a part of our wedding on the mountainside. One of my requests was that we sing the Norwegian Table Prayer before eating back at the reception. Not many people in the room knew it (there aren’t many Lutherans in this area!) but it warmed my heart to have that important prayer be a part of our day.

5) The music sung by my family.
My Dad is an amazing musician, and for our wedding toast he decided to sing “Forever Young” by Bob Dylan. I was in tears. Music is such an amazing thing, and while we stood there listening to my Dad sing those beautiful words, my heart was rejoicing.
Later in the night, our band took a break and suddenly everyone was saying “Shhh” and my sister began to play. She sang two different songs for us…I believe it was one she had written and another she loved to sing. I honestly can’t remember at this moment what the song titles were anymore, but she is such an amazing musician as well, and it was truly magical to hear her love for us through her words & song.
So that’s it, a bit sappier than I try to be in general on this blog, but your wedding day is all about being sappy, or at least it was for me. 🙂
The Lyrics to “Forever Young” by Bob Dylan
May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.
May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.
May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

  1. Aww so beautiful, and your pictures are amazing!

  2. You two look RIDICULOUSLY happy. So so so beautiful.

  3. First of all, if I didn't already adore you I would be wishing for this lovey-dovey bullshit to cease and desist. Did I spell that right? But, it's you..so I can't be mad at it. You guys are too adorable for all my bitterness.Side note in the world of creepy…Someone sang this song to me for my 33rd birthday…in Colorado. Spoooky.

  4. LOL…I know I know, I'm surprised you two are even still talking to me Junket. 🙂 End of the lovey dovey b.s. – I promise! Time for a mixed drink!

  5. Oh Josephine….I look at these photos and read the words and am absolutely FILLED with joy. I remember how happy I was that day, and feel it all over again. There is nothing better than seeing your child married to the right person. The decision of who to marry pretty much sets the tone for the rest of your life. I am amazed at how I stumbled into that with your Dad. Lucky me. 🙂 What a treasure. It occurs to me that two of the three best moments of my life in the last two years were in Colorado on a mountain. lol. And me, such a prairie girl at heart!

  6. Thanks Mom. It's always good to have you out here. 🙂

  7. You are so pretty!! And you are the picture of what a bride should be: in love and ecstatic to marry the love of her life, not all caught up in actual wedding details.

  8. Thanks Penelope. 🙂 I really didn't want to stress on the actual day, so I tried to have everything planned way in advance. Through my "refusal to stress" technique, I successfully forgot my veil down at the reception hall (had to have ppl bring it up to us on the mtn!), forgot to download our first dance song onto my iPod, and had an absolutely wonderful day. 🙂
