Adventure Weekend Day 1 – Meeting the Nephew!

Okay, I’m going to split my whilrwind Minnesota weekend into three different posts, just so I can justify posting so many pictures. 🙂 My Mom is a photographer and took hundreds, so I’m trying to just pick a few. From Friday morning at 3am to Sunday night at 12:30am, I drove 800 miles, took four planes, met two babies, and went to a wedding. It was a crazy weekend, but awesome!
Even though mornings are ROUGH for me, by 11am on Friday I had driven the first 100 miles and flown on two planes to arrive in Minneapolis. That is an epic achievement for me. Epic. Mom picked me up around 11:30 (thanks to a delay from the long “Minnesota goodbye” she had with my Great Aunt *lol*) and we were on our way! My in-laws live about 2 hours southeast of MSP, but thanks to a couple of shopping stops, construction, Friday afternoon traffic, a wonky navigation system, and a bizarre man at the gas station who informed us that “even though he watched his Dad kill his Mom when he was three and he was raised by his grandmother who is now 97, he turned out okay since he doesn’t drink or smoke,” (um, WTF?) we made it to their place about 4 hours later.
The instant we walked in the door I was drawn to my nephew. He is my very first nephew, and he is perfect! He looks SO MUCH like his father (my husband’s brother) – it was cracking me up!
I love when babies get that fixated stare like you are the only thing that matters in their universe at that point. 🙂
My bro & sis-n-law were married just 20 days after us, and it was hard for me for awhile when we first started having issues conceiving, b/c if we would have conceived the first cycle (HAHA – yeah right) the cousins would have been four weeks apart. Craziness. Holding baby Jonah in my arms though, all I could think about was how much I loved him and how happy I am for his parents!
Aren’t they the cutest little family?! They live 1/2 block from the Mississippi River, and we had the nicest walk along the dike road that evening.
Unfortunately, as with all vacation visits, the first day went by entirely too quickly, and by 9:15 the next morning, Mom & I were headed onto the next big adventure!
