Adventure Weekend Day 2 – The Cuzzzin’s Weddin’

So like I said in my previous post, Mom and I were on the road fairly early Saturday morning. However, I must interject that I actually went running that morning before we left. In fact, I worked out EVERY DAY on vacation – craziness! I kind of figured that I’d be eating and drinking to excess, so the least I could do was work on maintaining. 🙂

Anyway, we stopped by a little town about 90 minutes down the road to pick up my 25 year old sister (who is the head volleyball coach of a MN college – how cool is that?!) and kept on with our trip. It was about a 5 hour drive to the hotel and fairly uneventful – just filled with good girl talk and bonding time! Once we reached the hotel is when the craziness began…

*note* I am not known for my punctuality to work in the morning, but usually in life, I am not actually late. However, when you get my entire extended family together, it tends to be a bit of a … well, shit show. LOL.

Let me break the situation down for you…

-The wedding ceremony & reception took place at a winery about 20 minutes from the hotel.
-The bride’s father had arranged for a shuttle to take people between the two, and the final shuttle departure was at 4:15.
-The wedding began at 4:30. Are you seeing the issue here?
-Most of my family was all in the lobby by 3:30, but my brother and his girlfriend were late arriving (I loved her outfit)…

…and there were so many people waiting for the shuttle that we let others get on and said we’d wait for the next one so we could all ride over together.
-When I say “my family,” I mean 14 of us that are all extended family. My Dad & sis and her boyfriend had gone ahead b/c they were doing the music, but the rest of us were still at the hotel.
-The final shuttle finally returns for us and departs at the scheduled time of 4:15 with all of us on it (iincludng about 10 other wedding guests – probably 25 of us total).

-We start realizing mid-ride that this winery is not 5 minutes down the road like we had thought. We are also increasingly nervous that though we’re on his scheduled shuttle, the father of the bride (the self-named DadZilla) would start the wedding without us there. Little sister’s boyfriend calls to see where we all are – we explain the situation, and he says he’ll do his best to stop the wedding until we get there.
Are you freakin’ kidding me?

-Now we feel awkward as all get out. It was awful! By the time we arrived (4:32) we were ushered in VERY QUICKLY and practially ran to our seats and as we were still finding seats the processional started and the wedding party was coming down the aisle. I’m just praying that the bride doesn’t think her wedding wasn’t important enough to us to show up on time for!

At any rate, once we finally made it to the wedding, it was a beautiful ceremony (and if I do say so myself, my Dad and Sister rocked my face off with their gorgeous music!).
Also, I love love love my cousins, and this family of sisters happens to be the ones we were closest to while growing up. There are three sisters, and all three of them are getting married this year within 6 months of each other. Craziness!

The one on the left is my family member BFF – she actually lived with my hubby and I for awhile, and since we grew up 45 minutes apart and were only three months apart in age, we’ve been close for a very long time. She got married in January, the sister next to her (the bridesmaid) will get married this July, the girl next to me is my 23 year old sister…
…and this is me and the beautiful bride!!

I am so happy that I was able to make it back for her wedding. It was a beautiful day and a fun party. I made sure I properly thanked her the next morning for my hangover, and she indicated that she was just returning the favor b/c she hadn’t felt so hot the morning after my wedding either. LOL.

Here’s a group shot of all of the girl cousins that were at the wedding (plus two of their daughters). My sis that’s in Norway wasn’t there, as well as two of the girl cousins that live in Alaska, but everyone else was there – pretty fun to get us all together!

My Mom said she drank more that night than she had in 15 years. LOL. We had a great time dancing together!
Mom & three of her daughters – the 4th is the one we’re going to visit in Norway this upcoming weekend!
My BFF cousin lives in CO right now, but she’s a doctor and finishing residency and possible moving back to MN to actually practice. I’m so bummed b/c I’ll miss her, but she’ll make a great doc in my hometown!

…and finally, the shuttle ride home at the end of the night. Yep, this is about how I remember it looking, too…and we went out to the bar after this! Luckily there were no cameras there though. 🙂
