Our Song – Happy 7 Years, Honey!

Okay, so 3 months ago, my friend E @ ManyManyMoons did a fun post about how she and her husband met and how they chose their wedding song. I meant to do a follow up post asap, but it obviously got forgotten in my drafts. Oops.

At any rate, I enjoyed reading the few that went around at that time, so I thought I’d take the time to post my own story to commemorate our first date, which happened seven years ago tomorrow!

As to how we met…well, it’s not all that romantic or serendipitous by any means. We were 21 (or 22?) and we both lived in a town of < 1000 people, so obviously we met at at the local dive bar. 🙂 I don’t remember if it was Dec04 or Jan05 (hence the 21 or 22 age), but I know it was shortly after I moved to town on December 1st, 2004.

Our first actual time hanging out just the two of us was on Tuesday, February 15th… an odd day for a first date, yes. The only reason I remember the date was that I found my old journal a few months ago and realized that I had written about it. I also found out that our first kiss was Friday, March 18th, and we started officially dating Thursday, April 24th. So weird to think about that super crazy, drama filled, tumultuous time in my life. I was new to town, had lots of boy drama going on, and was totally unsure of what to think about my budding relationship with Charlie. I loved that we could be super independent and do our own thing at parties without any jealousy whatsoever…but then I also journaled about crying at home because he was so non-jealous/possessive, and I needed more reassurance about his feelings for me. How funny is that? To this day he is like that, though I’m finally confident enough in our relationship/marriage to know that it’s not a negative reflection on how he’s feeling about us, but more a positive reflection of the amount of trust and love he has for me.

So on to the first dance song…

I loved planning my wedding – LOVED it. I could be a professional wedding planner and be totally stoked with my occupation. Every detail of the day was thought through, and for the music at our wedding, we booked a live band that played oldies/rock’n’roll, and it was so much fun. The one issue was that I wanted the song Everything for our first dance song, and Michael Bublé wasn’t exactly their genre. From the moment I heard that song and listened to the words, I knew it would be perfect for our wedding. Oddly enough, Michael Bublé  first came on my radar because of his appearance on a private date on The Bachelorette. Reality TV for the win! 🙂 At any rate, we figured out a way to hook my iPod up to their sound system, so we figured we would just play it that way… the only problem is that I forgot to buy the dang song off of iTunes or load it onto my iPod, so on the drive from the ceremony to the reception, Charlie and I had to do a quick stop off at our house so that I could frantically download the song and load it on my iPod. Oops!

All’s well that ends well though, and the beautiful song with the perfect words played while we danced our first dance as man and wife.

Michael Bublé – Everything.

You’re a falling star, You’re the get away car.
You’re the line in the sand when I go too far.
You’re the swimming pool, on an August day.
And you’re the perfect thing to say.

And you play it coy, but it’s kinda cute.
Ah, When you smile at me you know exactly what you do.
Baby don’t pretend, that you don’t know it’s true.
Cause you can see it when I look at you.

And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times
It’s you, it’s you, You make me sing.
You’re every line, you’re every word, you’re everything.

You’re a carousel, you’re a wishing well,
And you light me up, when you ring my bell.
You’re a mystery, you’re from outer space,
You’re every minute of my everyday.

And I can’t believe, uh that I’m your man,
And I get to kiss you baby just because I can.
Whatever comes our way, ah we’ll see it through,
And you know that’s what our love can do.

And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times
It’s you, it’s you, You make me sing
You’re every line, you’re every word, you’re everything.

So, La, La, La, La, La, La, La
So, La, La, La, La, La, La, La

And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times
It’s you, it’s you, You make me sing.
You’re every line, you’re every word, you’re everything.
You’re every song, and I sing along.
‘Cause you’re my everything.
Yeah, yeah

So, La, La, La, La, La, La, La
So, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La

  1. Look how cute you guys are. Can you believe it's been 7 years…crazy? It's so hard to believe when you look back at a relationship all that happens and the twists and turns we go through. That's the name of the game I guess. One thing I know for sure, you are definitely one of the coolest couples I know!

  2. You look SOOO happy in that last picture! And not sure if this has come to light before or not, but yet another date we have in common…we got engaged on February 15th. 🙂 Thanks for sharing your story, and I love that song!

Maybe not all the details but just to let us know if IT has taken place and, if you tell us IT was simply wonderful, I will have to un-follow (?) you. You know I'm kidding, enjoy your special day!

  9. […] – I spent most of February just getting used to working outside the home, but I loved Our Song – Happy 7 Years, Honey! about the first time I met my husband. I can’t believe it’s been nearly eight years […]
