10 Reasons

Maggie May is a woman whose blog I started following her years ago when she was struggling with endo and TTC for her daughter, Ever Elizabeth. Maggie is a poet and an artist, and I’ve continued following her throughout the years because of her beautiful, honest writing about life and relationships. Everything is just so real in her writing and her world, and I love that about her. I highly recommend checking out her blog!

At any rate, like I wrote about the other day on PAIL, I’ve been feeling a disconnect with my husband lately. I’m trying to remember to do the little things again, but it’s hard. We were doing really well a few months ago, and then…something changed. I don’t know if it was the weather or our current financial struggles or a little of everything, but we’ve been on a downward spiral lately, and I am SO ready for it to go back up.

On Thursday, this post was in my reader by Maggie May, and it blew me away. It just reminded me that it was time to take stock of all of the “little things” that are really the “big things” of why I love my husband, and why it’s him, and no one else.

Without further ado…here are my current top 10 reasons that it’s him and no one else.

  1. The way he cares so much about people. He has the biggest heart I know, and once you’re a friend, you’re a friend for life.
  2. He laughs at my stupid jokes, even if he’s annoyed with what I’m saying, even if it’s in the middle of sex and ruining the moment (like last night!).
  3. His bath time games with our daughter. Every night he has her in belly laughs while they are in their own little world.
  4. He works hard for our family. Even when he is sick and tired and depressed – he does his best every damn day to keep us safe and clothed and fed.
  5. The way he loves to sing, even though he denies it. If it’s just me and Stells around, he’ll sing and dance like his life depends on it.
  6. Related – his love of music. Man will sit with a case of beer and a stack of CDs and be happy for hours, talking about the words – just listen to the words Jos!
  7. His faith. We might not go to church every week, but he believes in God and wants that for our daughter just as much as I do. When I told him this week that I’d like to get into the habit of praying before meals so that Stella learns that, he immediately clasped his hands together, told Stella to do the same (which she did – because she mimics everything he does now days!), and said a prayer before dinner. *swoon*
  8. His ability to forgive. I am far from perfect, and though he’ll call me on it and we’ll talk about it, ultimately he forgives me. He has forgiven me for things I don’t know if I could have forgiven him for if the tables were turned. He is a good man.
  9. His body. My husband has a great body. Long and lithe and strong. He works hard with his body for a living, and it shows. DAMN.
  10. His passion…for life, for work, for sports, for family, for friends. He is the most laid back, yet intense person I know. He just CARES with a passion about everything, and I love that about him.

How about you – what are your top 10?

  1. I love this post and will be doing one myself! You are right, its so important to take stock in the good things!

You sure look just like you did 5 years ago!!!

  2. Gorgeous list Josey! I agree with the body thing, there’s just something about a man who works with his hands 😉

  3. Yep, Charlie is a total hottie and such a catch! You are one lucky lady and the reverse is true for him!

I should do this list! Mark and I have been at each others throats when were not busy adoring our daughter. I told him to go out with his friends so he could give me a chanc e to miss him and then when he did I texted I’m sorry I miss you I take it all back!!! We have just been spending so much time together, but that should be such a great thing, the only time in our lives when we are all home as a family!

Another Ever! Wow, going to check out her blog now! 🙂

    1. It is TOUGH with a new baby in the house. It’s nice to have the hubby around, but really, you’re still doing most of the work, so it can just be inherently frustrating as well. Hang in there lady!

This is so romantic and so honest. Are you going to share it with him? For some reason, I can shout McMister’s praises from the rooftops when he’s not around, but saying things to him directly rarely gets done. Something I need to work, for sure!!!

My fave line from any movie EVER is the following from The Notebook. I think it fits far more marriages than not 🙂

Noah: Well that’s what we do. We fight. You tell me when I’m being an arrogant son of a bitch and I tell you when you are being a pain in the ass. Which you are 99% of the time. I’m not afraid to hurt your feelings. You have like a two second rebound rate and yoru back do doing the next pain in the ass thing.
    Allie: So what.
Noah: So it’s not going to be easy. It’s going to be really hard. And we’re going to have to work at this every day. But I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, every day.

    1. I just showed it to him – OMG I was so embarrassed. He thought it was nice.

    2. ps – totally great quote 🙂

  5. And this is one of the many reasons I love reading your blog 🙂 Thanks for sharing this beautiful post!

  6. I got the biggest grin reading you showed him and were embarrassed. 🙂 I’d be MORTIFIED if McMister read something like this from me. We are so silly.

  7. I love the idea of this list, as well as your own ten reasons, especially 8, “he is a good man.” I often think those exact same words about my own husband and find them to be the most important thing I could say about him.

Hope the two of you are beginning to reconnect!

  8. Aww this is so sweet and honest and romantic!! I really need to do something like this about Anthony in order to remind myself just how amazing he is and why I fell in love with him and am still so inlove with him now. We are very lucky to have our wonderful husbands even if they aren’t perfect all the time. Charlie truly sounds like such a great guy. How sweet that you did end up sharing this with him. I am sure it made him feel pretty special.

  9. I love #5! It’s those private moments shared in family or between a couple that are the most precious – the parts of a person that only you are privy to. Wonderful!!

  10. This is a really important post. Something for all of us to remember. Sometimes I feel like my list of things that bug me about my husband is longer than the list of things I love about him, but that’s never, ever, no-not-ever true. I have a great guy and it sounds like you do too.
