Everlasting Love

Angel of 8th AvenueGrandpa Elmo died of a heart attack in 1974, and we’re pretty sure this was published in the local paper on Valentine’s Day of that year, so this would have been the last Valentine’s Day my grandparents had together on this earth. My Mom said that she thinks the hard times he was referring to to were because he had a stroke a few years before he died, and life was not easy. Grandma Marian died of cancer just over a decade later, in 1985, when I was three years old. My earliest memory in life is from her house, helping her make gingerbread man cookies.

I’m so sad that I didn’t get to know them more before they were gone, but wow… what love.

Happy Valentine’s Day Charlie – may we love like this, even thirty plus years down the road. <3
