Weekly Wednesday Weigh-In

Weekly Wednesday Weigh-In: 5 Weeks Postpartum-Starting Weight: 5’8″ and 172.9# / BMI 26.3
-Last Week’s Weight: 164.6#
-Current Weight: 163.7#
-Goal Weight: 152.0#

Avg Daily Steps – 6,608 (goal was 7000/day)
Avg Daily Calories – 1,660 (600 deficit/day – goal was 750 deficit/day)
# Floors Climbed – 131 (goal was 100)

I didn’t work out for the past 3 days, so it makes sense I didn’t quite hit my 7k step goal. I also didn’t hit my calorie deficit goal, but I still lost almost one pound, so I’m happy with the continued downward progress. I know I could lose weight faster if I gave up beer, but I’m just not desperate enough to want to do that yet. LOL. Also, am I the only person who apparently drinks MORE often because of the thought that I could (fat chance in hell) get pregnant? My neighbor and I were talking about this Saturday night over beers while we watched our daughters play together. They are planning on TTC#2 in May (got pregnant 1st month last time), and we decided that we have both started drinking more often as if we need to “get it in” before getting pregnant again. This works if you’re someone who gets pregnant right away. If you’re me, it just means that I’ll drink way too much for… who knows how long. Dammit!

Goals for this coming week:

Average Daily Steps – 7,000/day – I want to keep the ball rolling on having increased movement just be a standard part of my daily routine.

Average Calorie Deficit – 750/day (which would equate to 1.5#/week)

Total # Floors Climbed – 150. I’m upping this goal to remind myself that even if I don’t have time to do the elliptical or go for a run, I DO have time to run the stairs a few times every hour – even if Stella is awake and I’m home alone with her!

Weekly Tip:

Park Father Away. For my entire life, I have been that person who circles the parking lot to find the closest spot. Now that I’m counting steps though, I’m realizing that it’s not such a big deal and really doesn’t cost you any extra time to just park in the first spot you come across and walk. It means (1) more steps for me!, (2) stronger biceps from carrying Stella, and (3) fewer door dings. Win/Win/Win, right? 🙂

  1. Parking further away is definately a win/win/win!

  2. I’m just beginning to realize that parking further away is O-KAY! I have totally driven around for 30 minutes before trying to get closer. Haha. I’m cracking up at your trying to get the beer in mentality. That’s so awesome! Again, you are totally my BFFs beer twin. 🙂

  3. I’ve always been OK parking a little ways away, but now with two kids 2 and under, I MUST park by a cart corral. They are usually about halfway back so finding a spot near one is a lot easier than finding one right up front.

Also, I think about the drinking while I still can thing all the time! Though I just told my mom last night that I haven’t had more than two glasses of wine in more than three years since I was pregnant, nursing, pregnant, and now still nursing with no breaks.

  4. Hehe. I tried to “get it all in” before too.

  5. I completely understand getting the beer in now! After ever failed IUI, that was the first thing I saw as a silver lining! How do you manage your beer intake with breastfeeding? Right now I just drink after nursing and only one and maybe twice a week tops. But with summer SLOWLY approaching I know I will want to more often and would appreciate any advice!

    1. Honestly, I’m not someone who has ever worried about have a couple drinks before or while breastfeeding. I did a lot of research on it, and you just have to go with what you feel comfortable with. For me, if I have a light beer after work and another light beer while I’m eating dinner, I have no problem nursing Stella at 7:30 before bed and having a few more drinks after that! I’m not a tiny person, and especially when I’m eating with the alcohol, I feel fine with it.

      A few things to consider:
*Up until around 3 months of age, infants metabolize alcohol at about half the rate of adults (so this is the most crucial time to be careful about drinking & nursing)
*A heavier person can metabolize alcohol more quickly than a lighter person
*An alcoholic drink consumed with food decreases absorption
*There is no need to pump & dump milk after drinking alcohol, other than for mom’s comfort — pumping & dumping does not speed the elimination of alcohol from the milk.

Good luck deciding what you’re comfortable with!

      1. Thank you so much! I have been thinking I could do a little bit more than what I was but was nervous to try. Plus, I do not want to get the ‘looks’ from other people. Ava is now 4 months so I might just have to have one to celebrate today!

        1. People will question everything you do as a parent – if you sleep train or not, what kind of food you give them, how you discipline, etc. etc. etc. It’s ridiculous. You have to just trust that you have done your research and know your stuff and you’re doing what is right for you and YOUR family. Screw the judgers. 🙂

Honestly – I never noticed getting any looks from people regarding drinking, so that’s a good thing I guess.

FWIW, Stella had no weight gain issues or gross motor development issues at ALL, and I’ve had beers throughout the entire time I’ve nursed her. Just use your best judgement and you’ll both be fine. 🙂

      2. This is interesting. I too am more relaxed about drinking during breastfeeding than I was while pregnant. I drank nothing while preggo. I’m a wine drinker and tested with those alcohol strips and I can have about 8 oz of wine before it starts to turn dark. Which is a little under two glasses. I just pour it all into one big weighty glass, so I feel indulgent. 🙂 and just lately since she has an actual bedtime, sometimes ill pour myself 4 more oz after she goes to bed since that is her longest stretch.

It’s great for relaxation, but never enough to get silly. I have yet to get a babysitter and let lose. 😀

  6. I’m always so inspired by these Wednesday weigh-in posts. I think I’m going to ask for a fitbit (that’s what it’s called, right?) for my birthday. I think there are different models though. Do you have one you recommend?
