The Dead Giveaway

So I really wasn’t intending on telling my co-workers just yet that I was pregnant. I work in a small medical center along with just eight other people, so I figured they would find out soon enough, but I really wanted to at least get one ultrasound under my belt before sharing the news. [Side note – my provider is trying to treat me like a normal person and say no u/s until 20 weeks – that is insane! I’m lobbying for one around 10w.]

The problem last week was that I was such a sick POS at work that I finally broke down and told one of my coworkers, just so she could help pick up the slack that I was so horribly dropping. Later that day (Thursday), I told my boss so that he could prescribe me some Zofran and I could attempt to be a functioning member of society again. I had Friday-Sunday off and spent the time resting and puking, and by yesterday at work I was feeling a little better (which basically meant I was ashen and nauseous but not actually puking). Then this morning was the baby shower we threw for my coworker who is 36w pregnant, and without really thinking about it, I was wearing my sea bands at the party.

photoUm, yeah. THREE of my co-workers approached me afterwards and asked if I had any news to share.

Well, dammit. I mean, yes, I do, but not yet? Kinda? Maybe?

I guess the cat is out of the bag now, though I definitely want to keep it quiet to the general public for a couple more months. I guess I just need to invest in some long sleeved shirts, huh?

  1. Sorry the cat is out sooner than you wanted….I thought for sure someone would see those bands I wore, but no one mentioned it….I even had bruises from that and acupuncture. No one noticed. Small offices are close quarters. Here’s hoping you’ll feel amazing again soon and you can tell the general public when you want to, and how you want to 🙂

I’ve never heard of or seen (that I know of) those bands. Your coworkers must be sleuths!

  3. haha oops! I suppose that is a dead giveaway!! Sorry that people found out before you planned but I am sure they are all very happy for you and now at least you don’t have to worry about how and when to tell them. Fingers crossed you can get a 10w ultrasound. I don’t think I could make it to 20w!!! :/

  4. Wow, just looking at those sea bands made me a little neauseated remembering using them during t1!

And yeah! I couldn’t wear them to work unless I had long sleeves! Glad you are feein a bit better. Is this worse than with Stella, it kind of seems like it is. Hang in there!

There are still so many scents I can’t stomach from my morning sickness.

  5. You would have had me fooled!! I thought you were rocking a sweat band. Boo to morning sickness 🙁

  6. I can’t believe they asked you! How bold! I hope the bands are helping at least!

  7. you poor thing. I remember being so upset when I was slacking at work for so long because I felt so bad. Not only do you feel sick but then you feel bad for others having to pick up your slack. Sounds like you have great coworkers though!!!

I hope you get that ultrasound before 20 weeks!

  8. Sorry they sniffed you out but hopefully the extra early sympathy is worth it! My mom swears by those band for flights and I always think it’s hilarious to watch her suit up with her little sweatbands. I guess they must work though!

  9. Oops! That’s pretty good that they noticed what was on your wrist and thought to ask if you were PG. Maybe b/c it’s a doctor’s office? At least now you don’t have to fight so hard to hide when you aren’t feeling well.

  10. UGH! That sucks, those dang nosy coworkers! Oh well, it will be easier with them knowing and you’ll get some much needed help. I’m so sorry you’re feeling like hell, it sucks. It really does.

  11. Ha! You might as well walk around with the positive peestick glued to your forehead.

And 20 weeks!? That doesn’t sound normal … isn’t there usually a dating ultrasound or something of that genre around ten weeks?

    Hope you’re feeling cheerier today.

    1. Yeah, if you know your dates (which I do), they don’t bother with them. My midwife basically told me to call her and lie and say I don’t know my dates and she’ll order me one. 🙂

  12. Oh man, I hope you start to feel better soon!

  13. Wow, you have some perceptive coworkers!! I would never guess pregnancy based on that! Sorry you had to let the cat out of the bag sooner than you’d hoped, but given how crappy you’re feeling it’s probably for the best!

  14. My sea bands gave me away at work too. At least with one woman who knew what they were and why people use them. Sorry the cat is out of the bag and you’re feeling so sick.
