15 Weeks

In my 13 week update, I wrote that I hadn’t had any pregnancy symptoms yet other than the horrid all day nausea/vomiting, but that isn’t entirely true. I had the “my mouth tastes like I just ate dog shit” phenomenon and the crazy metallic taste (which I guess is called dysgeusia) for most of the first trimester and a bit beyond. I also now have prolifically bleeding gums when I floss, which also happened when I was first on fertility meds and while I was pregnant with Stella. My boobs still haven’t grown or become very tender, though I can no longer jog down the stairs without holding onto them because that hurts. What also hurts? When Stella ‘TICKLES!” me — which in her world basically is a titty twister. OUCH. No more titty twisters, Stella!

I’m also having crazy dreams all night mixed with fatigue all day (because of the insomnia I suppose?), and now that I’m only puking every couple of nights for the most part, I am officially hungry ALL THE TIME. #HANGRY

*ETA – how in the world did I forget to mention the acne?! It’s like I’m a pre-pubescent girl again. Blergh. White heads galore. //

Sex is still…meh. We’ve had sex 3 times since I got pregnant (right before morning all day sickness started, 6 weeks later when it started to abate, and last week). This makes me sad…but not sad enough to overcome my aversion to it very often. *sigh* It’s just hard to get in the mood when I’m tired and nauseous and just look bloated and fat. I’m solidly in the “feeling not-so-sexy” part of this pregnancy, and part of me can’t wait until the bump is hard instead of just belly fat that is getting pushed out by the hard ute underneath.

Speaking of the belly – holy hell is there a belly. When I walked down the stairs this morning in my skirt & bra, Charlie did a double take and said “whoa!” When I asked him about it, he said it was just the first time I really looked pregnant to him because the belly has grown quickly lately. I’m not gonna lie – I’m a little scared about how big I’ll get this time around. We shall see.

In happy news, I finally figured out how to find the heartbeat on my friend’s doppler a couple of weeks ago, so once per week I’ve been allowing myself to use that handy little machine and listen in awe for a minute. 🙂 I was supposed to have a midwife appointment yesterday, but I pushed it back to 17w instead (I know, who is this crazy relaxed person?!!), so it will be 2 more weeks until that appointment, and then the anatomy ultrasound scan will be done at the local hospital around 20w. EEK! I don’t know if I mentioned it here, but Charlie really wants to find out the sex this time, so I think we’re going to know if this is a She-Ra or He-Man in about a month. How crazy is that?!

  1. I love the belly! And here’s an odd question for you, but since I’m still in maternity clothes anyways, where did you get that skirt? I love it!

    1. Old Navy!! SUPER comfy, and could totally be worn as a maternity skirt or not (has one of those fold down waist bands). I’m probably going to order it in another color as well, I love it so much. 🙂

  2. you girls and your too cute for words bumps…KILLING ME!!! I can’t believe you’re 15 weeks already. It seems like this pregnancy is flying…but that puts me at 25 weeks EEEK!! And I just woke Raegan up laughing at titty twister…OMG I’m so sorry, but that just totally made me laugh. I hope she has stopped to give you some relief. My boobs haven’t grown at all this pregnancy, but there have been obvious changes. And as for “how big you’ll get,” I wouldn’t worry. The second always appears bigger because your body is prepared…at least that’s what THEY(whoever they are) say.

    1. Dude – the titty twisters are AWFUL. “TICKLE TICKLE MAMA” elicits a sense of dread in my now! It’s straight for the boobs, every time. Charlie thinks it’s hilarious!

  3. Omg. I must have blocked out the whole mouth tastes like dog shit thing. Thank you thank you thank you. I’ve been glamorizing pregnancy lately and feeling very nostalgic, and it helps to hear the not so good stuff!

Look at the cute new little bump posts you’re doing for your babe! Very cute!! And nice shoes! You are so talented with photoshop.

So glad you will find out the gender!

    1. Also, my belly pops out after I eat a big meal now, or any meal, or drink a lot of water. I can’t imagine how very much it would pop with a baby in there. Time to start an workouts, ugh…

      1. Mine too! Oh the irony!

Very cute update! Gracie told me the other day that I had “big legs… And a big tummy… And a BIIIIG bum!” So at least Stella isn’t verbal enough to add to your self-image yet 🙂

Oh my gosh – my gums bled SO bad when I was going through IVF. It was awful! And could you be any cuter?!? For real. Also, I always knew that if I ever got pregnant, I would not be able to get a Doppler. I would never be able to stop using that thing!

    1. Oh ya – I ALWAYS tell people (esp IFers) to NOT get a doppler. I refused to buy one, but this time my neighbor talked me into trying with hers around 9w, and when I couldn’t find the heartbeat from 9w-13w or so it freaked me the fuck out….which is exactly what I knew would happen!! It’s nice to listen to once a week now though, not gonna lie. 🙂

  6. I’m so glad you’re feeling better for the most part you look great!

  7. 15 weeks! That’s crazy! And I also suffer from bleeding vampire gums. That’s actually one of my first symptoms before I even test…looks like I got punched in the mouth by Tyson.
Love your bump, you look great!

  8. You look gorgeous! And I totally admire your pushing back an appointment. Keep that mellowness coming!

  9. You look beautiful Josey! I am 2 weeks behind you and this pregnancy is kicking my butt compared to my other pregnancies. The vomiting is every few days now too, but now my kids who rarely get sick (knock on wood) got a bad cold/cough and now I have it. The sinus drainage and coughing make my gag reflex SOOO much worse!

And yay for finding the HB with the Doppler, I finally found his/her HB 2 weeks ago with mine (I used one last pregnancy too.) At first it is hard to differentiate between the placenta (whooshing sound) and heartbeat but once you hear them both you can totally tell the difference!

And I have only gained 1-2 lbs if that from being so sick, but at almost 13.5 weeks and having my pregnancies so close together (less than 2 years apart) my uterus is popping way sooner! I am on the tall and slender side so I feel like it is TOTALLY obvious too!

  10. Omigoodness! 15 weeks already! I can’t get over how fast it is going. I am very excited for you! What does Stella think of the heartbeat?

    1. She makes her “oooooooh!” face when she hears it. 🙂

      1. That melts my heart!

  11. I’m LOVING the belly! I’m selfishly excited you are finding out if it’s a boy or girl…will you be sharing with the rest of the world or holding out on us?

    1. Ha, sharing. No way could I keep that secret. 🙂

  12. Wow! 15 weeks already!!!?? 🙂 You look really good!!!

  13. That is a perfect little bump! I am way impressed with your laidbackness. If I had had access to a doppler when pregnant, I’m pretty sure I would have found a way to surgically attach it.

    1. Ha, that’s why I never bought one myself! Trying to lay off this one since there’s nothing really proven either way as to the safeness of using them every day!

      1. Hey Josey, I did use a Doppler with my last with no issues and have a few times this pregnancy. I will say a few things…I limited it to a few times a week, and once movement started much less and once I could do “kick counts.” I will also say I did love it at the end, as my big boy (almost 9 lbs born at 40 wks 2 days) didn’t move as much and it did reassure me when I could get his HB when his movement slowed. Can’t wait to find out what you are having! 🙂

  14. I just want you to know what an inspiration you are to me! I have been following you for a couple of years now and have loved watching your family grow! Thank you for sharing your realistic journey of family and infertility with your ever positive and encouraging voice! So happy that you are expecting #2! What a blessing!

    1. Awh, thank you!!

  15. What a cute pic of you! I had to laugh at the titty-twister remark. E loves to grab my shirt and yell “shirt!” while also getting a handful of boob. Ow!

  16. I got bigger much faster with my second and third kids, but ended up about the same size. I bet that happens for you too 🙂 so excited for you!!! 🙂
