Resolutions

I’m not one for making grand resolutions, but then again, I do think it’s a good idea to have goals in life. Specific, measurable, attainable goals help motivate us to be better people and keep on moving in the right direction! Writing it out here helps to keep me accountable, so here goes…

resolutions

  • Health
    • Focus on clean eating & consistent exercising in order to be a toned 150# / size 8-10 (I’m currently 180# at 9 months pregnant).
      • This is a totally healthy, maintainable weight for me (and a BMI of 22.8). My double BOB is sitting in the garage, ready to go, so I have no excuse to not get out for a walk/run in 2014, even with two kids!
    • Run at least one 10k (Kristy – we are making this happen this year!).
  • Travel
    • Do more of it!
      • I want to take at least one girls’ trip (probably to a lake cabin in MN with some bloggie friends this summer!)
      • …and at least one husband trip (STL in September and maybe AZ in November?).
      • I’d also like to attempt a family rafting trip this summer if I can talk my husband into it!
    • Start contributing to a travel fund like I used to so that my husband and I can start to plan a fun international trip somewhere.
  • Finances
    • Pay off my student loans – preferably by May 1, the 10 yr anniversary of me graduating college – and invest that extra money in my children’s college savings accounts instead.
    • Start working on building up our savings account again. It’s been zeroed out since our fertility treatments in 2011, and that makes it really stressful at times. We really need to have a cushion to fall back on to help alleviate money stress in our marriage & lives when things get tough from time to time.
  • Family
    • As a Mom: Focus on slowing down and savoring the baby moments; work on having patience with the challenging toddler moments; always love them with all my heart more than anything every day.
      • I want to make an effort to put down my cell phone & disconnect more when they’re around (especially Stella). Building big towers is more important than checking Twitter any day of the week.
    • As a Wife: Be more intentional. Speak kinder words. Reconnect physically.
  • Self Care –
    • Stay away from drama & negativity, both in real life & online.
      • This is a perpetual goal of mine to surround myself with positive, supportive people, and I feel like every year I’m getting a little better at it! Life is too short to surround yourself with people you don’t truly respect, admire, and like!
  • Faith –
    • Spend more time getting back into the church and help to teach Stella about God as well. I truly want to establish Faith as a cornerstone of our Family.

So there ya go, my grand, sweeping resolutions for the new year. However, I really think they’re all attainable if I put my mind to it. Here’s to 2014 being even better than 2013!

I love that all of your goals are specific and actually attainable.

    1. Thanks! I tried to do that purposely so I had something concrete to work towards for these different parts of my life.

  2. Your self-care goal is the top of my list, for sure. I spent too much time feeling shitty about myself this year. I’m going to get on my list and hold you to yours! 🙂

    1. Ya, I do pretty well at self care, but it’s been a work in progress over the years. Finding a cpl of awesome local ladies to hang out with has helped a lot with that. I hope you find someone’s hair to braid soon! 🙂

  3. Beyond ordinary is by far one of the most honest, and authentic marriage relationship books I have ever read! Recommend it to everyone!

    1. Your review of it is the reason I know about it! It looks totally awesome – I’ve read nothing but glowing reviews of it. I can’t wait to check it out!

  4. This is such a great list!!! You have inspired me to do the same. And I will definitely try to keep you to your list. So many important things on here.

    1. Thanks! You have a great list too. Heading over to comment now. 🙂

  5. I am going to get Beyond Ordinary right now, along with my fitbit. Jan 1 is tomorrow… And it’s time… It’s time to get things under control!

Funny you mentioned putting down your phone. I knew you had a post for me to read, but was in the waiting room with Matthew for his speech appointment. I noticed another mom of 2 on her phone the entire time as M and I talked with and engaged her very sweet kids. I made a note to myself that THAT is what i look like when I’m on my phone with alert children. Not judging the other mom, just observing and taking note for myself. Only when Matthew was out of eye shot did i pull out my phone to read you. It felt GOOD!

    Happy new year!

    1. I’m curious what you’ll think of the book, Courtney. I’ve heard lots of awesome things about it!

PS – you’re in my top 5 commenters for the 2nd year in a row on WordPress. Thank you! 🙂

      1. You’re my #2 commenter… So thank you too!

one of my resolutions this year is blues and brews/Josey visit!!

  6. […] is more sticking with them that I have trouble with (so you ladies must hold me to these!!) Luckily Josey, then SRB, put out their own lists this morning which helped to get me motivated to actually write […]

  7. These are all great goals, and sound very attainable! A rafting trip sounds FABULOUS- sign me up!

    1. Yeah, we have great 14′ self bailing raft that it’d be super fun to get the kids on. I’m hoping to do an overnight trip somewhere in the area. Wish me luck talking my hubby into it! Luckily our friends (who also have boats) think it’s a great idea, so hopefully we can all get him on board. 🙂

  8. Love the specificity of these, very inspiring. I can feel what a good place you are in right now!

  9. Awesome list! Mine is mostly keeping all three kids alive until 2015 🙂

    1. LOL, totally a great goal. 🙂

FYI, based on my wordpress stats, you’re in my top 3 commenters of the year again – thanks for all the support my friend!

  10. I hope you meet all your goals in 2014! You’re definitely going to have your hands full!

  11. Lemme know when you’re having your bloggie friends getaway in MN! I’m only an hour and a half from the southern border! 🙂

    1. Western or eastern side? My parents live in SW MN, so we often fly into FSD…
