They’re Always Watching

I have definitely felt lately like we’re at the height of the imitation phase with Stella. Everything I do, she wants to do, and I realized today that extends to working out (DUH, right?).

I had planned on doing Day 2 of the 30 Day Shred during nap time (have I mentioned yet that my body already HURTS from this? oweeee!), but as usual time got away from me. I had just put Harvey down when Stella woke up, so I decided to give it a shot while she was in the living room with me. It turns out sheย loved it, and she wanted to be involved the entire time. When I first started doing jumping jacks during the warm-up, our conversation went something like this:

Mama, whatchu doing?

Jumping jacks! Can you do them?

[Silence…] Hm…. I can TRY!

Well, damn kid. Way to inspire me.ย

She proceeded to do jumping jacks…

and punches…

and leg lifts…

and she even worked in her obliques! ๐Ÿ™‚

It was a totally awesome reminder of how our kids learn from us, and the entire workout was filled with exclamations like “Wee! This is fun!” (usually said during the butt kicks and jumping jacks), and “I did it!”

Yes kid, yes you did. Thank you for inspiring your Mama today. <3

  1. Well, that was ADORABLE. I don’t know how I’d be able to stay focused with so much cute hopping and crunching around me. Nice work, Stella and mama! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Yeah, I obviously slacked a little to take these pics, but it’s impossible for me to do the workout 100% yet anyway, so I didn’t feel too badly. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. So you want to send her to Florida with me next week so she can motivate me through my races? ๐Ÿ˜‰

    She’s so awesome.

    1. I wish!

  3. That is so cool!! I never would have thought to include C in something like that, but why not? Go S!

  4. She is just too cute!

  5. This is too cute! I love it!

  6. So so bizarre- Grace looked at B and I just yesterday and said “Work out right now!”. So I decided, why not? We spent about ten minutes trying all kinds of exercises- jumping jacks absolutely being her favorite. She was pretty rock star at the lunges, honestly. But I think she may have been going a little too deep on her squats… We’ll continue to work on her form. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Our daughters are going to be BFFs for sure one day.

  7. This is awesome!!! I didn’t know if you have Comcast, but they have little kids’ workouts (like 10 minutes) on On Demand. Calvin turned on a yoga one for the girls a few weeks ago and they looooooved it. I keep thinking I’m going to put it on and use it for a few minute distraction, but I haven’t yet.

  8. I LOVE this. Maybe Tay would join in with me and I could get some bonding time with her AND workout! ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. THAT… is adorable! Especially the crunch picture. I bought a kids yoga DVD to do with E and she was really into it the first time and did all the moves for about 15 minutes. Every time since then, she just wants to drag around the yoga mat until she gets mad at it and screams. (Can’t skip the yoga mat, either because… screams.)

  10. Aww this is so awesome! Love all the photos of her workout. What a cutie! Lids is in this stage too. I have been working on teaching her dances (like Macarena because I am so up to date ha!) and she is so good and copying the moves, then yesterday I was doing water aerobics at a resort and she joined right in. Toddlers are great!

  11. This is so great! Sofia used to join in during my prenatal workouts and yoga. She loved it! And it’s such a good reminder that we need to model the right habits AND that our attitude is an important part of the equation. Stella is right – it IS fun! ๐Ÿ˜‰
