Final Midwife Checkup

On Tuesday I had my final check-up with my midwife, and it was SO bittersweet to know it would be my last appointment with him. Bill came to my home at 1 day, 3 days, and 7 days postpartum to check up on me and Harvey, but this final check was done at his home. Normally it’s done at 6 weeks postpartum, but since he and his wife (and birth assistant) were on vacation in Sochi at the time (lucky guy – they were at the USA/Canada women’s hockey gold medal match!) we did my appointment at 8 weeks postpartum. It was so great to see them again, and though I knew that Harvey was looking great and gaining weight well, it was still nice to have him checked over one final time by the person who helped bring him into this world!

I had such a phenomenal, wonderful, perfect experience with him as my caregiver – I really couldn’t have asked for anything more. Thank you, Bill, for helping me feel confident about my safety, the safety of my baby, and my ability to birth at home and “make it look easy.” You’re amazing.

How great you feel so close to them! I’m sure they feel the same about you.

  5. So beautiful, so perfect. So joyful! (I bawled my freaking eyes out when we left our last MW appointment. Felt so loved and cared for there, it was hard to say goodbye!)
