Blogging & Motherhood

So many of the infertility bloggers I have followed throughout the years have slowly dropped off over time – either from writing about their kids or from writing completely. Sometimes it’s because of privacy concerns, and sometimes it’s because they feel too busy to write. People say they couldn’t possibly make the time to blog with small children to take care of, and they profess to not understand how people who continue to blog do it. I’m on the flip side of that statement, because though I have my times where I cannot find the desire or time to blog for a few days at a time, overall, I cannot imagine not blogging at this point in my life. I absolutely love being able to look back at my children’s lives thus far through the lens of my blog and the writing and pictures I’ve shared here. My family reads my blog, my closest IRL friends read my blog, and of course my URL friends read my blog. I love having this point of connection with others and this virtual journal of my children’s lives to look back on.

When I read Heather’s post on Dooce this past week about blogging & motherhood, I found myself nodding along with everything she was saying. Dooce is the very first blog I ever read back in 2009, and I read every single post in her archives within a couple of days. As she has grown as a blogger, I’ve always admired Heather’s ability to share fun details about her life without over-sharing, and I’ve tried (sometimes unsuccessfully!) to do the same.

I don’t think I will ever have an audience in the millions like Heather does, but I can definitely relate to the closing lines of her post:

As someone who has built a career chronicling parenthood, know that every day I get up and hope that I am giving my daughters just the tiniest glimpse of what you gave me. The whole story of my website is me trying to show you that I was paying attention.

Thank you, Mom. Thank you for teaching me how to lead a life filled with love and respect. Thank you for being you and for helping me to be me. I love you to the moon and back.

Omg I was terrified this was an I’m-not-blogging-anymore post. I’m so glad it’s not! 🙂

    1. Ha, no way! I’ve just been away from the computer this week because my sister is in town visiting. 🙂

  2. Phew me as well. I was preparing to get all upset. Thank goodness it isn’t that post.

    1. Awh, shucks. It honestly didn’t occur to me than anyone would think I was leaving blogging! Thanks for caring if I was. 🙂

  3. I would be sad you were leaving! I love reading your blog. You truly have successfully blogged without oversharing, but remaining real and honest. I think that is one of the many reasons I love reading. Your last few sentences made me tear up thinking that I am now a mom and teaching my children some of the same virtues. I hope and pray one day my daughters will think the same about me. You and your mom both seem like special people with a special bond. Happy Mother’s Day to you both!

  4. I can’t imagine NOT blogging now too, and I hate (though I understand) that so many blog go vacant after babies arrive! I do love reading your blog and am glad to hear you’re not going anywhere!

  5. That quotation from Dooce is really interesting way of looking at it. I’ve been thinking about a lot of things differently lately, and this is a “Hmmm” moment for me.

  6. Such a great picture of you and your mom!
