A Party & a Book in Remembrance of Jaime

Sorry for the blog silence over here lately. As I mentioned last week, Charlie’s brother and his wife and kids were in town for 10 days, and then my parents also got to town last Thursday and just left this morning. It’s been a whirlwind, busy time with family, but SO so awesome. Needless to say I am woefully behind on both reading and posting, but I’ll try to get back at it soon. Thanks for all of your feedback on my Stitch Fix post last week – I ended up keeping the aqua colored shirt, and I got a ton of compliments when I wore it last Saturday at the Memorial BBQ in honor of Jaime’s birthday. I’m leaning a little goofy in this photo, but you get the idea. This is my husband’s entire side of the family, including my new niece or nephew who is growing along in my SIL’s ute! They had been TTC since before Jaime died, suffered a pretty late loss last fall, and now she is about 19 weeks pregnant, so we are SOOOO excited for them!

Us adults all have slightly puffy eyes from crying off and on with friends all day. Man, what a day. <3

At any rate, I have lots I want to post on (SOMEDAY, dammit), but I thought this would be a quick, fun thing to share today.

Last Saturday at Jaime’s would-have-been birthday party, her best friend showed up with a stack of books in her hands. Unbeknownst to us, shortly after Jaime’s death last year, her BFF started writing a book about the adventures of Jaime and her miniature dachshund. Her Mom is the art teacher at the local school, and she illustrated it. There were many, MANY tears shed as we read through the book and laughed at the stories, and we know this is going to be a favorite book for us and our kids for years to come. It was written in such a way that Jaime & Jack’s names are the only ones in it – everyone else is referred to as friends or neighbors or whatnot, so it’d be a fun book for anyone to read to their kids. If you knew Jaime though, you’ll recognize the people and stories, and you’ll laugh and cry. It is SO awesome.

The cool thing is that they printed a bunch of copies of the book, so if you’re local, you can buy it for $20 from a few of the local stores, or if you’re from further away, you can get it on Amazon here. How cool is that?!

I wondered about your SIL when I saw that picture on FB of you all. How fun for them!

    1. We are very excited for them, for sure. 🙂 They find out the sex this Friday!

  2. Jos- this is a wonderful update…it brought me to tears knowing how special Jaime is to all of you and how you still celebrate her life. What an amazing family. And I’m glad you kept that shirt…it looks quite nice on you. As soon as I get a full paycheck I’ll be purchasing the book, mostly because I love books about adventurous dogs especially those I can read to my kids.

    1. It really is so special. Fun to have a book to read to the kids about her!

Jaime looks so much like your MIL. I had to do a double take.

That book is awesome! It’s pretty evident how much Jaime touched people’s lives.

  8. That book is the coolest thing ever. All the ways you guys have to remember her are amazing – getting together, the bench, and now the book. So cool. (Your aqua shirt looks great, by the way!)
