The Monday Snapshot – #LoveWins

Last Friday I was at a work conference a couple of hours from home, and when I checked my phone during one of the breaks, I saw post after post on both my Twitter and Facebook timelines filled with joyous words and celebration about the SCOTUS decision. Love is love, and now everyone has the ability to marry whomever they would like and have it recognized by the state. So very cool.

At any rate, I drove up to Denver that night after my work conference in order to stay with one of my oldest and bestest friends for the weekend. We haven’t had a girls’ weekend together like that in probably 5 years, and it was SO much fun to spend some quality time together and do some bike riding and bar hopping. 🙂 Before we headed out to the bars that first night, we took a selfie and I uploaded it to FB and used the #celebratepride app to put the rainbow over the photo because we had been talking about how excited we were about the ruling. We headed out to the bars and I thought nothing else of it.

The next day my friend mentioned that she was probably going to get questions about her sexuality because of the photo because she’s super private about the guys she dates so they’re very rarely pictured on Facebook. I laughed, but didn’t REALLY think she’d get comments.

Sunday morning we woke up to a comment from one of her FB acquaintances on a new pic I’d posted of us with the hashtag #oldroomies. He said “Ohh….. I thought you were coming out… Not that there’s anything wrong with that.” It went on from there (it was a little ridiculous, seriously, just weird shit to post in a FB comment), but you should’ve seen the laugh we got out of it! In the end though, I’m just glad that #lovewins and it’s finally being reinforced in America that we all deserve equal rights in that arena of life!

  1. Funny! When you changed your profile picture, I didn’t even think it looked odd that you were with your friend! It’s funny where people’s minds go, isn’t it?

    Friday was a magical day!

I didn’t think twice about it because I know you (kind of 🙂 ) But if I was fb acquaintances with someone who wasn’t explicit about their relationship status, and then they posted that pic with the rainbow on that day, I would wonder. I wouldn’t say anything whether I was 100 percent sure or 0 percent sure, but I don’t think it’s totally crazy that he made the assumption. I wouldn’t have thought the person was “coming out,” just that maybe I had missed that info at some point in the past.

    1. Oh yeah – I don’t think it’s totally crazy to assume that (though the comments he continued with got a bit out there – check out my pic on FB to see!), but it just made me laugh to realize that someone might assume that, and then smile to realize that it’s actually pretty cool someone might assume that.

OMG Hahahaha that is very weird. But I can soooooo hear my dad saying something like that. Maybe not on fb though 🙂 but maybe.

  3. Hahaha, I pretty much had the EXACT SAME THING happen when I made the picture of Heather and I rainbow, though I’m blaming Adam for starting it with his “relationship goals” comment. Ha. Thankfully it didn’t snowball into phone calls from family members. hahahahaha.

    1. LMAO, full disclosure, I actually had a moment where I saw your pic & the comments and wondered, and then I realized from the tone of Adam’s comment that he was just being a shit disturber. 🙂

  4. I am so proud of you guys. Huge kudo’s to USA. Australia can’t be far behind. It staggers me given our generally careless and blase attitude to religion that this is currently the one thing holding our government back from recognizing same sex marriage.

This made me laugh. It’s funny where peoples minds go. But you’re right that it’s pretty cool that it’s an ok place to go.

  6. Funny. Reminds me of when I went to an Ani DiFranco concert awhile back and my sister grabbed my hand and pretended to be my date 🙂 And yay for times a’ changing!
