Stitch Fix #8 – Anniversary Date Night

As a quick recap, Stitch Fix is an awesome stylist service that you pay $20/box for. You choose the frequency (ranging from every 2-3 weeks up to on demand only), and if you keep any of the 5 items in each fix, your stylist fee goes towards the purchase price. You give your stylist feedback on a form on their website and through Pinterest boards, blogging, etc. So far I think it’s a pretty awesome service. Some boxes have been better than others, but I like that it pushes me outside of my comfort zone to try new pieces on in the comfort of my own home, and anything I don’t like I can easily drop back in the mail in the included postage paid envelop. Pretty darn cool! My goal is to find one new piece I love with each fix (both for monetary and STUFF reasons), but if you love all 5 pieces, you get 25% off the entire box. I dread that ever happening to me. 😉

For this fix, I included the following note:

My wedding anniversary is on July 19th, and I have no idea what we are doing, but I’m guessing it will be a nice dinner somewhere, and I’d love a cute new top to wear. Summery weights & colors please — pinks, yellows, oranges, turquoise, etc. Something sexier or more lowcut would be totally fine!

Here’s what my stylist wrote me:

I was so excited to see the color palette when I opened up my most recent fix on Tuesday night – it was right up my alley!

Creative Commune (Delano Chain Strap Blouse; Size Med – $58)

This shirt looked super fun & semi-dressy; perfect for my lifestyle. However, when I pulled it on, I was sad to see it hit just above the widest part of my body. A couple of inches longer and I think I’d have loved it (the back detail was really fun!), but the length just feels off for my body and it is dry clean only (with those chain straps I wouldn’t have felt comfortable even washing at home on delicate), so I think it’s a no-go. I did love the color and style of it though – it just didn’t fit well on me. Do you agree?

Henry & Belle (Reggie Tall Skinny Jean; Size 30 – $148)

I’ve slowly been converted to a skinny jean fan over the past few weeks, and I had high hopes for these. They were prertty snug on my thighs but somehow still flattering on my pudgy midsection, which I liked. However, they were a little bunchy around my ankles, and THERE WERE NO FRONT POCKETS. Dude, where would my FitBit go? Or my keys? Or the million Kleenex and shit I put in my pockets all day long for the kids? Nope. No way. I can’t justify that kind of money for jeans without front pockets. Sorry. I also still think bootcut/boyfriend jeans tend to be more flattering on my shape anyway. Verdict – returned.

Creative Commune (Dalia Ribbon Strap Blouse; Size Med – $54)

Ugh, I’m realizing as I write this post that all of the pics are blurry & washed out. That’s what I get for taking them quickly before work with the kids at my feet. Oops. At any rate, this blouse fit much better and had a little more length, which I liked. The halter back is fun for summer as well. I’m not sure what to do about this one – thoughts?

Skies are Blue (Alexa Embroidery Detail Tank; Size Med – $48)

I had actually pinned this top, so I was excited to see it in my fix. However, it was WAY too tight across my chest & upper bag. Whomp whomp. 🙁 You can’t really tell in these pics, but I could barely move my arms to take the pictures. I suppose I could ask to trade for a size up, but then I’m worried it’d be way too flowy and maternity-ish around the midsection. Thoughts?

Tart (Shaina Maxi Dress; Size Med – $98)

Stella was DYING for me to try on this dress, and as soon as I did she started oohing and aahing over it and exclaiming about how beautiful I looked. <3 Both she and Harvey loved the feel of it as well (silky soft) and couldn’t stop touching it long enough for me to get pics. LOL. I do like it a lot actually, but is it worth $98? Eek! Not sure.

  1. When you do find skinny jeans you love with front pockets – don’t be afraid to get them hemmed…pants are always long on me. I find some that fit great everywhere else and after I wash and dry them I take them to a tailor!

    1. Mine are almost always too short, actually! I never have the too long problem. 🙂

  2. I love the dress on you btw…and the black tank…

  3. First time commenter but I had to tell you how much I LOVE the black tank on you!!! It’s fun and flirty and perfect for your anniversary date. The back is so cute too! You could get so much use out of it and extend iuts life through the seasons with a cardigan. Hands down I think it’s my most favorite piece from any Stitch Fix!

  4. I love the ribbon neck to and expected to read that it was an absolute YES. The embroidery top is so great, I’d get the next size up and try. The colors are just great on you!

The dress looks nice, but I’m not sure. No on jeans (why are skinny jeans always too long?).

    I love those two tops!

I’m disappointed in all the colors this time (except for the pink dress.) I can’t wear bright, summery colors like you can, and you look SO good in them. I was excited when I read what you asked for, but then all the tops were so boring (color-wise)! If you can wear those beautiful bright colors, do it! I’m super jealous how good they look on you.

I was going to say definitely the dress, but then gasped at the price tag. I think that’s just my own issue though. It is pretty for sure.

  6. I know you said the first top hit at your widest point, but I think it is super flattering on you. Of course, I shop at old navy so don’t ask me for fashion advice. I love the dress too an if it’s for your anniversary but you know you have a chance to wear it again, I say jump on it. And I’m poor….so spending $$ on anything right now is hard. If I found something I really liked I would splurge a little.

  7. Keep the black tank and the dress! Super cute on you!!!

The chain top (first one is the most flattering!)

  9. Love the dress! But Jeez $98!!! Hard call! It is gorgeous AND I have a very similar dress that I’ve had for 5 years and wear every summer, so the style is definitely not trendy, more classic! Your right about the shirts. Too short, too tight (bigger size would be too flowy) and the jeans are not worth $148! If it were me I’d keep the dress and return everything else, I like the black tank, but the price of the dress…I’d return the shirt to get the dress! Lol!

I know you think that first shirt falls at your “widest” part, but I think you look awesome in it. I think it has more shape than the black tank which seems a little boxy to me. And that chain back is fun and sexy.

I know I’m in the minority, but that first shirt looks amazing on you and definitely a “wow” piece for your wardrobe.

Also, even though you look great in that pink dress – it seems a little feminine. I obviously don’t KNOW you, but you seem like a “girl next door” kinda chick, and the foofoo pink maxi seems a bit girlie for a beer drinking, rafting, “cool” mama.

Of course, this is me making tons of assumptions from reading about your life. So yeah…

  12. If you love the dress, it’s worth the money to me. Clothes that I love are hard to find! And I would absolutely ask for the white embroidered shirt up a size. It’s so cute, might as well see if a large would work.

I think the dress is a keeper. The color looks so good on you.

  14. I just signed up and scheduled my first fix. I did it through your link but it was on my phone. Hopefully you got the credit??

    1. I can see that you’ve scheduled your shipment – yay! I hope you like it as much as I do. Thanks for using my link!

  15. KEEP THE DRESS

    I know I’m shouting. Sorrynotsorry. 😉

  16. Yes on pink dress!!!!!
Love all the tops… Pick the one you think you would want to grab most often out of your closet to wear
Pants look great on you but not worth $150. Sometimes pants don’t have those front pockets cause it makes hips not look as big with the extra fabric

You may have already made choices since this is so late responding!

    1. I know why they don’t always have pockets – I’m just saying no way do I want jeans without pockets 🙂
