The Monday Snapshot – Hiking Edition

On Saturday I did a gnarley hike up a 14,000’+ mountain (they’re called “fourteeners”) with my brother and three of our friends. About 1/3 of the way into the hike I was REALLY struggling mentally (and physically), and I really didn’t think I could do it, but my brother kept encouraging me to just take 10 steps and breathe, and I finally broke through the block and kicked ass. Man it was fun. 🙂

  1. Pure awesomeness.

  2. You’re wild! Way to go!!!

Mt. Rainier is 14,500 and takes months of training and 2-3 days to actually summit. It’s also covered in snow, even in summer. Why is yours so different? (I know, stupid question day 🙂 )

    1. Also, I love that you did this with your brother ❤️

    2. I’m not sure, but it looks like you have to hike from way lower on the mountain, so about a 9,000′ elevation gain when it’s all said and done. Considering I live at 7,000′ and this peak was at 14,150 – that wouldn’t even be possible here. 🙂 Also, Rainier is a glaciated peak, so it’s covered in snow/ice year round. The mountain I climbed is generally snow-free from about mid-June to mid-September, so you don’t need to be technically savvy about traversing snow/ice. We were able to drive all the way to the upper trail head, so we only had about 2,000′ of elevation gain. It’s still quite difficult because the air is so thin and there’s no true trail – it’s more bouldering. Just a totally different type of mountain I guess!

      1. It’s just funny to me to think of a Colorado mountain with no snow 🙂 And I don’t want you to think I didn’t think it was hard. You can see from the pictures alone what a feat it was AND you are SO fit that if you struggled that mightily, it had to have been a beast of a day. Congratulations again!

  3. Wow, what awesome pics. Looks like one hell of a hike. Love the topless photo, lol.

  4. Ok last comment, I promise 🙂 Did you tell Stella about it? What an incredible example of strength, perseverance, and bravery you are for her.

    1. Ha, I mentioned it, but haven’t showed her pics yet. She was just stoked to spend the day with her grandparents while I did it 🙂

      1. You should tell her all about it! Those are the things we all want our children to learn, and you exemplified them all in a day!

  5. Those are some amazing pictures!! Way to go!
