An Auntie Again

My little sister is a MOM. Oh man, I can’t tell you how weird that is! I’m the oldest of 5 kids, and though I’ve made that transition to motherhood over the last four years, none of them had yet, so in my mind they are all still “kids” if that makes sense. Kids that are 24, 26, 28, and 31. 😉

Well, at 10:05 CST last night that all changed when my beautiful 7#9oz and 20″ long niece was born to my 28 (almost 29) year old sister. Ayla Kafi is my very first niece, and she’s the first cousin my kids have on my side of the family. Stella was SO excited when she woke up this morning and I got to show her some pictures. We are all so in love!

Her Mommy & I look a LOT alike, and even though Ayla's Daddy is West African and my husband is a Northern European mutt (hehe), I think my niece looks a LOT like my kiddos did as babies. Genetics are such a funny thing, aren't they?

  1. So wonderful and exciting! I agree, she totally looks like a little V*d baby! In my head she and Bjorn will fall in love and get married when they grow up. 😀

    1. LOL, sounds like a plan to me!

    Congratulations! Love her name. 🙂

    1. Me too! I think they got the idea for Ayla from the Jean Auel books – http://www.jeanauel.com/books.php We all loved that series when we were younger (Mom got us all hooked on it). Now I want to reread it and envision our little Ayla as the main character! Her middle name is an African name that means Quiet and has a lot of other beautiful descriptions behind it. I totally love it!

  3. Congratulations on your gorgeous niece!!! Photos like this make me want another one! 😉 Sooo sweet!

  4. She is gorgeous! I predict right now that she will NEVER go through an awkward, ugly duckling phase like most Auro-mutts (like me) do! 😉

Congrats! It’s pretty fun when it’s the first niece or nephew on your own side of the family. Pretty special!

    1. Right? I thought the same thing. 🙂

  5. Oh how fun! Congratulations! My sister is going to have kids and I’m really sad about that (though I’d never utter it to anyone in my family). I really hope my husband has some kids (she probably will, if things go her way) so I can be an aunt to nieces and nephews on that side of the family. I really want to be that person to someone…

I hope you get to meet that sweet baby soon!

  6. Congratulations! I’m sure it’s making you broody again 😉

So sweet! I cannot wait for nieces and/or nephews. I always try to imagine the love I’ll have for them, but of course, I can’t until they get here. Congratulations!

  8. Congrats! Incredibly cute! Cousins make life FUN!

Congratulations. She is pretty, and yes, her name is fab. Ayla is a common name around here too.

  10. Congratulations, she’s beautiful! I can’t wait for my kids to have a cousin, but that will be years down the road.
