Scene

This morning Stella and I were walking out the door at 7:45am and I was patting myself on the back for having my shit together and being on time for once.

7:46 – see random piece of paper on the counter as I walk out that says “Halloween Party Tomorrow! Preschoolers can wear their costumes ALL DAY! Our class party beings at 9:30am. The school wide parade starts at 2:15pm. Please feel free to bring a snack to share at our party!”

SHIT SHIT SHIT. I can’t be “that parent” who sends her 3yo to school as the only one not dressed up.

Stella, get back in the house right now!

  • Strip her down
  • Send her into her dress up closet to pick out an outfit.
  • Fly around the house looking for the Elsa wig; settle on the Elsa hat + braid because it’s nowhere to be found.
  • Say screw it to putting together a snack.
  • Tell her to pick out whatever shoes she wants; pink cowgirl boots it is.

7:55 – head back out the door knowing that I’m going to be late for work. GAH.

At 2:15, I even skipped out of work for about 30 minutes to watch Stella VERY SHYLY walk by in the elementary parade. Just another day in the life of a slacker parent. HA! #winning

  1. Slacker? I call that superhero work. And the only reason I’m not in a similar boat tomorrow is because I got the memo today as I had to pick up the Beats for a doctor’s appointment.

  2. I had the same this morning but not Halloween dress up but wearing all black for the Rugby World cup finals this weekend. It’s a big deal here. Do you think we own a stitch of bkack clother for Toby urrr No. Had to make do with the darkest blue I could fine. I felt like a fail but he didn’t even notice . I also have had to get my husband to pick him up two days running so busy at work. Feel so disorganised. I am impressed you were totally there for Stella go you.

  3. Totally something I would do!

  4. I have heard so many busy, frazzled, almost messed something up but conquered that shit anyway stories this week. Something must be in the air 🙂 Awesome job! She looks adorable.

  5. This is so me. I sent G to school the other day to “trick or treat” with no costume. Slacker. Tonight is our church fall festival- Nolan-
No costume. Charlotte is going to be a cat, mostly because what I bought for her “costume” are clothes from Target she can wear again. Slacker.

I live in constant fear of being ‘that parent’!

I remembered the costume but frantically raced to the grocery store this morning to buy treats for the class after the teacher casually mentioned it when I called yesterday to ask about the costume stuff. Treats – GAH! I did feel better that there were at least 3 other moms in the seasonal aisle shuffling back and forth muttering “nut free, what in here is nut free?!” while dragging kids in wigs 🙂

  8. I forgot to send JJ to school with Chloe’s costume last Monday too. Luckily they were just showing them in the bag, not wearing them, and she got to take it Wednesday instead, but I hear ya! It’s hard!! You made up for it by being there to see her walk around. Good mom. 🙂
