An Impromptu Pregnancy Test

Off and on for the last couple of weeks I have gotten PUKING sick for a few hours – and then felt fine. The kids have been snotty/coughing messes, but not puking, so it’s really bizarre.

I was telling my boss (a doctor) about it after work on Monday night, and he and his wife and my other coworker all kept ribbing me that I was probably pregnant. Right.

So a year ago I really wanted a 3rd child. My husband really did not. Now that we are emerging from the diaper and baby phases and traveling is getting so much easier I am feeling less and less inclined to go back to that again, so I’m pretty darn sure we are done with TTC. Also, I have an IUD. I got my period the last couple days of vacation in Hawaii. I was 99.9% sure I wasn’t pregnant, but when 3 people keep insisting that your symptoms sound like pregnancy symptoms, it gets in your freakin’ head!

BUT. That doesn’t mean I’d be sad to have a surprise 3rd pregnancy.

At any rate, they talked me into taking a pregnancy test at work, just to get that off my mind. I had to laugh, because only when you work in a medical center would you be talking to your bosses and coworker about this before your husband! I peed in a cup, my boss did the dropper of pee on the test, he literally COVERED the damn thing for 3 minutes while he nonchalantly chatted with me and my heart rate went crazy, and then the big reveal…

BFN.

It was crazy after all the years of hoping and praying for that damn second line to feel (mostly) okay with the negative result. I’m not sure that we are done, but we are certainly leaning that way, and I think every month that passes I become more and more at peace with that.

I think. 😉

With where we all are in our parenting journeys right now, I have heard that SO many times. “We’re finally out of XYZ, and I really don’t want to go back to that.” It’s funny bc I think it’s that we’re all so BARELY out of the baby woods that it’s just too close for comfort hahaha. Maybe it’s the universe’s way to keep siblings close together. Once you get past a certain point, we’re all wired to say, “Yep, that’s it. Let’s forge ahead now.”

  2. Yep! This is our biggest spacing at 2.5 years and it’s not even a big spacing in reality, just to us! (Ours are all less than 2 years apart.) And was a big surprise! (We use NFP, it totally works…but we were also totally careless around the holidays so I guess we weren’t that against another lol!)

It is stressful at times, but I do love having a big family though with IF and 2 losses I never planned for it to actually happen (4 with another on the way). I was just beyond grateful for my older 2. And I felt at peace after 4 and in a great place then as well.

It hasn’t been easy this time, but I am super excited to be having our second girl!

  3. Wow. When I saw the title my heart started racing for you! So I can only imagine how you felt during those 3 minutes! Even if logically you knew it was unlikely and you’re okay with that, I think it’s really hard to change the muscle memory of YEARS of POAS and hoping for a BFP.

I’m glad that you guys are reaching a point of happiness and peace with the 2 wonderful kiddos you have.
