Day 1, #NaBloPoMo – A Mental Health Day

Try as I may, it’s been months since I’ve been able to get back into the habit of writing here consistently. I saw an old blog friend post on FB today about her decision to join #NaBloPoMo this month and thought to heck with it, why not try? I have a million thoughts swirling around in my head lately, but I never take the time to write them down, and that needs to change. My goal this month is to make coming to this space a habit again – and a healthy habit at that.

That being said, I had to laugh when I saw the optional prompt topic for the day…

When you’re having a bad day with your mental health, what do you do to help yourself?

Ha! Honestly, this past week has been a tough one for my family, and today in particular it has been hitting me hard. As always, my Mom is our rock, and a verse she shared with us in an email just a bit ago really struck me:

Proverbs 31:25: “She is clothed with strength and dignity and laughs without fear of the future.”

She went on to tell us, “Don’t go down the path of fear…it leads to nothing good. Whereas the path of living joyfully in the moment, of peaceful easy feelings…and belief that God is ever present in our lives…well, that’s all about LOVE you know. And we always try hard to choose love.”

Amen, right? My Mom is a smart lady. <3

Thanks to her inspiration, this month I am committing to handling my stress in a healthier manner. It's so easy to turn to vices like comfort food & drinks when times get tough, but I really want to give myself mental support and clarity through writing at this juncture in my life. I don't know if everything I write here will see the light of day, but I'm at least going to take the time to write it out, and I'll commit to publishing *something* here every day.

Here goes nothing!

Good to hear from you, and best of luck with NaBloPoMo. I’m sorry to hear that you’re going through a rough time.

  2. Proverbs 31:25 is one of my favorite verses of all time! I have it framed on my wall. Hope things get better. Praying for you.

I’m sorry you’re going through something. I’ve been wondering. Of course, I’m glad you’re back to writing!
