Day 28, #NaBloPoMo – Monday

It’s Monday morning, and I’m back at work after a long 4 day weekend with the fam. After spending so much time together, Harvey has been on me like velcro the last couple of days, to the point that I had to peel him off my leg and hand him screaming & sobbing to the nanny this morning as I walked out the door.

These are the days that I’m torn. I’m exhausted from being home for the past 4 days with the kids, and in many ways it’s a relief to be at work. At the same time, I kinda wish I was still sitting at home, cuddling with my kids on the couch.

I started this day off tired and cranky and not in a good mood. As I wrote this post, an email came in from my Mom with a link to this poem and a note saying “today is going to be a good good day.”

It’s time to reset my outlook on the week.

Monday

Of each of seven days I live each week,
I must admit I love the Monday best
because it offers me a chance to tweak
my schedules after lazy weekend rest.

Consider all the faults and all the fears
that marked those precious misplaced days now gone
and don’t waste time on pointless grieving tears
when Monday gives anew a chance for song.

It is the sunrise of my seven days,
and brings a brightness full of life and hope
which fills my heart and mind in special ways
with strength so I’ll not fear to strive and cope.

When I awaken every Monday morn,
I feel that I have surely been reborn.

  1. Love that poem! I hadn’t seen it before. Very positive way of looking at a day that many of us dread every week. 🙂

  2. I’m surprised H was clingy. He seems like he’s all go all the time 🙂

  3. I totally agree with that poem – Monday is my best day! I was just thinking of posting to FB, “Sweet Jesus, thank God it’s Monday and we’re all back to normal. My nerves are unwound!” And then I read your post instead of going out to FB to update my status. I love my kids, but I had not had a moment away from them, with the exception of two outdoor runs each less than 60 minutes, since Tuesday noon. I needed this day to come!

I know you feel torn, but at the ages they’re at – you wouldn’t be at home snuggling on the couch come Monday. Stella would be at school, and you and Harv would be figuring out what to do with your day, probably bored with each other. HA! Don’t get me wrong, staying home is great (most/some days) but the holidays and weekends are not indicative of what you’d be doing as a SAHM. Brian forgets this and always laments the end of the weekend or holiday, and I say, “buddy, it’s not like this on Mondays!” 😉

    Thank god for MONDAY!

    1. Yeah, Charlie had to work all day Friday and Saturday, so there was a lot of solo parenting going on. I’m pretty burnt out…

      1. Solo parenting sucks when it’s not the norm. Solo parenting when Brian is on a work trip can send me over the edge. I’m great during the days, because it IS my job, but before 7:00 AM and after 6:30 PM and I’m still doing it, I’m D-O-N-E. 😉

  4. Your Mom seems amazing, she seems to send you things all the time with just the right message – pretty awesome.
