Bright Spots

The last 14 days have been a blur of waking up and thinking *what the actual fuck* every time I look at my phone. This administration scares the shit out of me on a daily basis, but I guess the upside is that I’m more motivated than ever before to make phone calls and talk to people and stand up for causes near and dear to my heart.

I truly think it’s important that we are aware and informed and active as citizens in these dark days, BUT I also think we all need a happy mental break from time-to-time, so here is my effort to do that here today. 🙂

  1. My Mom’s first cancer scan and labs were 3 weeks ago (on Harvey’s birthday, actually) and they came up clear! She will have scans and labs every 3 months for the next couple of years, but we are all hoping and praying that she is in the 50% of people for whom the surgery got it all and it stays gone without having to go down the chemotherapy road. Wasn’t she beautiful at my sister’s wedding?! <3
  2. Speaking of the wedding, it was totally awesome, and to top it all off, on their honeymoon my sister hit a hole-in-one! The adorable video her husband took got featured on Time.com, GolfDigest, and other news outlets. How cool is that? I just love the absolute joy in this video. I’m so happy for her that they found each other. Charlie and I are already plotting how we can swing another golf vacation to Hawaii together with them next time. 😉
  3. And as for my immediate family and travel and happiness, we are headed to Spain with the kids in just two weeks! Considering how poorly our marriage was doing just two months ago, I’m beyond grateful for where we are at today. At couples therapy last night our counselor brought up how cool it was to see us excitedly talking about a trip that two months ago we weren’t even sure we wanted to go on together. We’ve been going to therapy every two weeks, and it has helped us tremendously. I’m so thankful we pulled the trigger to get help talking to each other again and working on digging deep about what the issues are and how to resolve them. Things aren’t perfect, but we are definitely on the right track. <3

So there are my 3 bright spots for the week! What is your bright spot right now? Please share! We could all use a little joy & love in our lives right now…

  1. OMG! I’ve played that hole that your sister hit the hole in one!! Stayed on Lanai’i when I was 7 months pregnant with H1 in 2011 :).

Anywho, this posts makes me happy because YOU sound happy :). Spain will be amazing. #jealous

  2. What great news about your mom! Love all the photos.

I feel the same about the news these days. Just trying to limit my exposures while still knowing enough to stay informed and take action. It’s a difficult balance.

  3. My new job is super awesome and totally worth being split from the family for 6 months (which will not be fun but is part of life). My spouse and I are in a really good place right now and it is fabulous (when we are in the same place physically; apart we are still happy but less fabulous).

    1. Oh wow, 6 months at a time? Will you all still be in MN or in different states even? I’m glad you’re all happy!

  4. Love, love, LOVE this post! I think it’s amazing how quickly effective couples counseling is when you put your heart into it. Good on you guys!!!!

So happy for your mom! ❤️

    1. It really is helping us by leaps and bounds. Things aren’t perfect, but they are SO much better than they were. And yes, ecstatic for my Mom!
