Sick Days & Snow Days

Yesterday I got the dreaded call from school asking me to come pick up Stella in the nurse’s office because she was sick. That being said, we made it 2.5 months before the first pre-k crud hit our home, which I suppose is actually pretty good! 4 of the 14 kids got sent home yesterday with fevers and coughs, so it’s definitely moving through the class.

These are the days that it’s tough to be a parent who works outside the home. Yesterday our Nanny was amenable to watching the kids even though they’re sick (Harvey is a coughing, snotty mess as well), but today is normally my mother-in-law’s day to have them, and she asked us to stay home with them so she didn’t risk getting sick herself. I totally understand that, but it’s hard when Charlie is self-employed (thus no paid sick days) and I get a whopping 3 sick days a year, so they’re rationed out like gold coins in our house.

Fortunately (or not – Charlie makes more money than me so I’d rather he was at work!), we got about 18″ of snow in the past 36 hours, and it’s still coming down! That means no work for Charlie, so he was able to stay home with the kids today while I went into the office.

I guess that’s a win? Though I’d rather be snuggling on the couch in my PJs with the kids…

Walking into my office this morning – day 2 snow accumulations after day 1 had already been shoveled off!
