Pushing WAY Out of My Comfort Zone

I mentioned last month that this winter I am participating in a fashion show fundraiser event. I’m not even quite sure how to describe this thing. Basically, close to 40 people donate their time to organize the show as it’s a huge fundraiser for the local no-kill animal shelter (which also owns the local thrift shop as an income source). The final show will have the “fashion show,” a presentation about the animals available to adopt, a silent auction, and a dance afterwards for everyone in attendance. Dancers like me are there 3 nights a week for the next month for rehearsals, and the organizers & choreographers are working even more time behind the scenes of course. It’s a serious time commitment, and my husband isn’t exactly stoked about doing solo bedtime 2 of those 3 nights. Oops.

At any rate, there are 14 different “lines” (dances), and I am in 5 of them. Me. HAHAHA. I haven’t danced since tap & ballet in elementary school. *sigh* This will be interesting. So yeah, everyone wears clothing from the thrift store, and each line is themed. Disco, animal print, working clothes, drag, shoes, bomber jackets… all sorts of themes. The lines are choreographed and it.is.crazy. Some lines are all women, some all men, some a mix.

Below is a video is from our first practice for the “Shoes” line (we all will have 4″ heels on with outfits built around the shoes). I laughed so hard at myself watching this clip (I’m in the hoodie – first dancer on stage right), because OMFG what have I gotten myself into? At least alcohol is free for the dancers on show night and it’s all for a good cause, right? ; -)
