Stella Times…Week 6

To My Darling Daughter,

You are six weeks old today. SIX. These weeks just keep flying by, and you are growing and stretching and becoming so much bigger, every single day. I had my first postpartum checkup today, and it looks like you and I are both doing great, so that is pretty wonderful news! You were a total charmer in the office too – wide awake, alert, smiling, cooing, talking… you name it, and your cute self was doing it. You won everyone over for sure. 🙂

A scan of the picture they took of us for the baby wall of fame at the midwife office.
You look like a little doll!

Now that I got the all clear from the midwife, expect to go on lots more walks (runs?!) soon as Mom tries to do a Couch to 5K program while pushing you in a stroller. I’m a little nervous about it, but I think it will be good for both of us. I just need to figure out how to time it with one of your naps. 🙂

Every week you are becoming more and more alert, and it’s so fun to see your big blue eyes actually looking at things now. I know you can’t see far, but you sure make it look like you can. You have started smacking your lips this week too, and it’s the silliest, cutest thing I’ve ever seen. The only problem is that you usually do if after you pull off my nipple mid-suck, so as I grimace in pain, you smack your lips and then grin at me. It’s a good thing you’re cute.

You had another little growth spurt this week from 5w2d – 5w5d where you wanted nothing but to eat, cuddle, eat, cuddle… and God help the person who dared put you down for a minute. Luckily, I have unlimited milk for you, and I love to cuddle, so even though it meant a severe lack of sleep, we made it work. 🙂

And now, for a photo montage of a few of your “firsts” this week:

First pair of jeans and first jean skirt

First night sleeping in the co-sleeper all night… until I pulled you into bed with me at 7am because I missed you so much. This is not to be confused with actually sleeping through the night (on good nights, you wake up every 3 1/2 hrs, on other nights, more than that)…but you did sleep in your own bed instead of cuddled up with me, so it’s worth noting. 🙂 Also, in the picture below, you were taking your first nap in the co-sleeper, and I was right next to you watching TV, hence the loose blanket. Normally you’re all swaddled up in your halo sleep sack. You look like a little burrito in it and your daddy and I love it!

First cut finger thanks to you moving while I was cutting your nails. You didn’t even flinch (you were nursing), but I definitely felt awful. I’m so sorry baby!

First visit to the liquor store (buying beer for my 30th birthday tomorrow!). Yes, I know, I’m old. I’m sure I’ll hear that more than once from you. In the meantime, remember that your Mommy was a pretty bad ass partier in her day, and maybe, just maybe, I used to be “cool.”

First pictures in the car seat without the winter cover on. You’re almost too tall for the infant insert already!

First time partying with Mom & Dad (the Broncos were in the playoffs and sucked it up royally…but we had some friends over to watch the game in hopes they’d pull it off and end up in the Super Bowl!).

First time Daddy figured out how to take a picture of you with my crazy complicated camera because he thought you looked so cute holding your head up. 🙂

It’s been another wonderful week with you in our lives m’dear. We love you so very much.

Mommy
