Brothers and Sisters
I just read this post in tears… and sent the text below to my three little sisters and my little brother. It’s amazing how we can learn so much about ourselves from others, isn’t it? Thank you Girl’s Gone Child for your amazing insights – the italicized portions below are from her post. My family has always called me “The Queen of Everything.” 🙂
Read the post called “Brothers & Sisters” … this is so how I feel quite often nowdays…
“I used to be the oldest,” I joke and we all three laugh, them towering above me, dwarfing me in height and intelligence.
It’s so weird to go from being the oldest…the one who knows everything and teaches you all everything and being the boss…aka. the Queen of Everything… to feeling like you all have surpassed me in so many ways. It’s bittersweet. I’m so proud of you all. SO PROUD. But sometimes I feel so lost. It’s an odd thing, growing up, isn’t it?
It took parenting siblings for me to finally understand my place and purpose as the eldest, my responsibility, not unlike a parent, to let my siblings grow up, step off the pedestal so that they can take my place.
I’m working on it. 🙂
