Grandpa Elmo died of a heart attack in 1974, and we’re pretty sure this was published in the local paper on Valentine’s Day of that year, so this would have been the last Valentine’s Day my grandparents had together on this earth. My Mom said that she thinks the hard times he was referring to to were because he had a stroke a few years before he died, and life was not easy. Grandma Marian died of cancer just over a decade later, in 1985, when I was three years old. My earliest memory in life is from her house, helping her make gingerbread man cookies.
I’m so sad that I didn’t get to know them more before they were gone, but wow… what love.
Happy Valentine’s Day Charlie – may we love like this, even thirty plus years down the road. <3
What a beautiful story! Happy Valentine’s Day to you both xx
Oh, how sweet!
Beautiful. what a great relationship to try to work towards in the future!
You guys are such a cute couple! I love this photo! You guys look exactly the same!
What sweet words your grandfather wrote your grandmother. Truly so romantic! And so awesome that your earliest memory was with her! Great post! Happy v day lady!
Aww this is so beautiful! I just love stories of long love like this. You two are adorable as well. I am sure you will have a similar love 30+ years down the road. Happy Valentine’s Day! 🙂
How sweet is that!! Great picture of you two, and hope you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day!
What an awesome thing to have documented! And so creative on your Grandpa’s part! Happy Valentine’s day!
I love this.
I love that he said “you’re the tops” and “the angel of 8th ave.” How sweet. That newspaper clipping is such a treasure. And I can’t get over the fact that his name was Elmo. Every grandpa should be named Elmo.
My Dad’s name is also Elmo, so now he is Grandpa Elmo. 🙂
Yup – made me cry. Love.
This is the definition of romance! What a sweet guy!
Wow! That is so sweet. Mad I totally thought that pic was from a little while ago (Thanksgiving?) when you took those pics with Stella on the way to the grandparents or aunt’s or sow thing. Yeah, anyway, rambling sentence to say you guys haven’t aged a bit 🙂
Good eye! Same location. 🙂 Just 5 1/2 yrs ago. And we have definitely aged!
Oh my gosh, that totally just made me cry.
This is so, so cool.
